Visionary hospitality – the hour of birth

With the opening of the first Europahotel in Mainz in 1959 the then twenty-two-year old Berno-H. Feuring becomes the youngest hotelier on the continent. The opening is a revolution: Central service stations, an inclusive pricing policy, a beverage lift and show kitchen are some of the features that turn the Europahotel into the prototype for modern hotels. In the same year, the young pioneer is approached to take over the project development for a hotel in Andalusia. He takes this opportunity to establish Hotelconsulting Berno-H. Feuring.

In the meantime the Europahotels continue their course of victory with the development and construction of new hotels in Ludwigshafen, Recklinghausen and in Tenerife. Morocco and Cyprus are already in the pipeline. Hotelconsulting Berno-H. Feuring's services are being called for more and more often.

Very soon, the rest of the world begins to take notice of the man from Mainz and after the great earthquake in 1960 the World Bank engages him to consult on the re-development scheme for Agadir (Morocco). Alongside Hotelconsulting Berno-H. Feuring another part of the enterprise that is responsible for the procurement and installation of FF&E for hotel developments is taking on shape. Feuring himself, is more and more frequently called in to advise on hotels and hotel developments, especially in Austria and the Benelux countries.

Operational know-how in demand - Emancipation of hotel development

After meanwhile ten successful years, Feuring comes up with another innovation: non-smoker rooms and areas as a category - until this day these are to be found in all hotels. The pioneers, the Europahotels, continue to grow. Apart from the close bond with Morocco, where Feuring is to develop 23 projects, Hotelconsulting Berno-H. Feuring advises on hotels in Madrid, Lisbon and Tenerife.

Feuring establishes the project development company, Corona GmbH, in order to keep apart project development and consulting. Meanwhile, around 1,000 people are working for various Feuring Group companies.

From Mainz into the world: increased global activities

From 1979 to 1989, Feuring is equally at home on the water as on land. During this time, he advises the shipping industry in terms of gastronomy and hotel aspects, in particular for floating hotels on the Nile and ferries between Travemünde and Helsinki.

But that is not enough: The company also advises on the take-over of three Mövenpick hotels in Frankfurt, Karlsruhe and at Stuttgart Airport. The repositioning of the renowned luxury hotel Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat on the Côte d'Azur and the consultation on Forte group's take-over of the Plaza Athénée in New York crown Feuring's achievements in the early eighties.

Consulting from Miami to Milan to Moscow – the internationality grows

As of 1989 there is even more demand for international hotel consulting. Feuring is involved in a wide range of projects and hotel developments, amongst them in Budapest, Turin, Geneva and Coconut Grove in Miami.

Due to his good contacts in Morocco, Feuring is once more requested to demonstrate his skills and experience and is engaged to do the overall project development up to the opening of the Hotel Royal Mansour in Casablanca, including the financing and operator procurement.

Work on the Plaza Athénée is not to remain the only liaison with Forte. The company takes on the project development of the group's hotels in Hamburg, Hildesheim, Warsaw and Cologne. At the time, it could not be foreseen to what extent this partnership would grow as only a few years later Forte took over the hotel group, Le Méridien.

There is still evidence of this evolution today, as the hotel in Cologne, which Feuring advised on, is now the Le Méridien Dom Hotel Cologne and one of the city's most renowned addresses. Feuring is also involved in the development of the Hotel Excelsior Gallia in Milan. A few years later, the Le Méridien Group is taken over again by a new owner: by Starwood Hotels & Resorts, one of the largest hotel companies in the world. Experience means commitment: so Feuring is on the front line when Westin Hotels & Resorts enter the European market in Berlin and Dresden.

The nineties see the awakening of many East German and –European destinations. Amongst other things, Feuring advises on transactions and developments in Russia and the former GDR: the present Hotel National Moscow – A Luxury Collection hotel as well as the Holiday Inn and Express by Holiday Inn, both of which are in Cottbus.

Feuring's head office also keeps up with the times: Matthias Lowin and Bardo-M. Feuring are appointed as Managing Directors.

Convinced by expert knowledge! Close partnerships and cooperations

At the end of the nineties, Feuring rings in the new millennium by consulting the West Fonds Immobiliengesellschaft on setting up a Mövenpick hotel fund for four hotels in Nuremberg, Den Haag, 's-Hertogenbosch and at Munich Airport and is also happy to celebrate the completion of the Marriott Hotel in Leipzig.

Once again, Le Méridien and Feuring Group work together very closely. Feuring is responsible for the project development of the five star Le Méridien Hotels in Munich, Hamburg and Vienna including advisory services, FF&E and operator procurement.

Feuring now increasingly attends to the acquisition and execution of sales transactions and continues to provide its services for international project developments such as, for example, the JAL Tower Hotel (now: Radisson Royal Dubai), the Steigenberger Hotel de Saxe in Dresden, the Le Méridien Hotel in Barcelona as well as for various other projects in Frankfurt, Kuwait, Beirut and Alicante.

50 years of experience – more than 400 projects – with no end in sight

In 2009, the Feuring Group celebrated its 50th anniversary and can look back on half a century of hotel development and consulting and many other advisory services in the hotel industry. Feuring has always been synonymous with the guarantee for first class and luxury hotels that are in line with the market. The more than 400 hotels, Feuring has developed or been involved in until the present day, speak for themselves.

Today, Feuring's wide-ranging comprehensive services focus on the development of hotel properties from beginning to end: from the location and market analysis, the concept for the turn-key development, including the supervision of construction work and the procurement of FF&E, right through to property valuation and -placement, operational advice and management as well as Operational Asset Management.

In the meantime, the company has worked hard to set further milestones in Feuring's success story: In recent years, Feuring has supervised and developed the Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf, the InterCityHotels in Mainz, Darmstadt and Berlin, the Hilton Garden Inn Davos (opening in November 2012) and the InterContinental Resort & Spa Davos (opening in 2013).

In many cases, Feuring continues to attend to these developments in its function as Operational Asset Manager after the hotels have been completed. Some of these are the Hyatt Regency Dusseldorf, the Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn in the Squaire at Frankfurt Airport and, as of their opening, the two newcomers in Davos.
