Back in Mainz after 50 years. Conference guests looking for a smart place to stay in the Rhine-Main region and business travellers participating in a meeting in Mainz, will be glad to find the InterCityHotel very near the main railway station.
The hotel opened its doors in the capital of Rhineland-Palatinate, famous for its cathedral, on November 3rd 2008. The three star hotel with its elliptic shape stands out from a large distance. Guests will also find the hotel interior to be very convincing: 180 rooms with a modern design and eight spacious conference rooms will ensure a pleasant stay.
Only two years before the hotel opening, the plot of land was still lying idle and being used as a car park by a local car dealer. Initially, the authorities did not give their permission to build a hotel on the plot but after Feuring submitted its convincing concept, the City of Mainz changed the original land-use plan so that it was suitable for the approval of a hotel.
In close co-ordination with the hotel operator, InterCityHotel GmbH, Feuring adapted the original planning concept, which provided for an office building, and closed a lease agreement over a term of 20 years. This was the basis for financing the overall project.
After the start of construction in March 2007 there were several surprises: A historical city gate was found on the plot and had to be carefully dug out by the historical preservation authorities. An artillery shell dating back to the 2nd World War had to be carefully disposed of and just before the building was finished a heavy thunderstorm caused substantial water damage. However, thanks to the good co-ordination and the Steering Committee initiated by Feuring, the opening date was never put to question.
Mainz and the entire Rhine-Main region have gained a very attractive hotel.
